scrapbook layout: eighth anniversary

Another year for us has passed and it’s time for me to make a new scrapbook layout to remember the day we were married.

The Story: Every anniversary we take a picture and I make a new layout to go in the wedding scrapbook.  More on the process here.  I include the business card for where we ate dinner plus a small bit of writing about the day.

Getting the Perfect Photo: I was smart this year and tried to break reminded myself how to use the tripod the night before.  The best photo of us had a guy running through it on the side of the frame.  I removed him by clipping out a piece from one of the other photos.

Guest Book Cards, Remembering those who have Left Us: Every year, I choose one of the messages our friends and family wrote to us on our wedding day and include it in the new layout.  In the last couple of years, I’ve chosen the card from someone who has since passed away.  It hasn’t been that long since our wedding day and I’m struck by how quickly people can leave us and how quickly time marches on.  I’m glad I can record something from them.

Scrapbook Layout: Banquet

The Story: Mr. P and I met in a student group in college.  Every year they have a formal banquet.  We went every year as students and continued for a few years as alumni.  This was my first one as an alumna.  I blogged the layout for the last one I attended as a student here.

Inspiration:  This layout from Paislee Press.  I cut two strips of patterned paper to look like washi tape at the top and bottom of the photo strip.

Of Note: I did what I’m now calling lazy-pants-printing and printed the photo strip as one piece and glued it to the page.  I was going for a photobooth-strip look, so the lazy was a-okay here.

Handwriting: Still suffering from bunching my handwriting together when I have a huge canvas to work with!

Scrapbook Layout: New Home

The Story: When Mr. P and I grew out of the shoebox we moved into the year before and upgraded to a bigger place.

Inspiration: This layout that was posted on Studio Calico.  I used it pretty verbatim.

This Layout Brought to You by Google: The picture of the apartment complex on the left is a screenshot from Google Street View.  I didn’t take any pictures of it before we moved away.  The map in the center is a screenshot from Google Maps.  The picture on the right is my own – it shows our new patio and plants we put in.

Of Note: I love using map pins!  I used a large one for the headline and a teeny tiny one on the map.  I printed the text directly on my page using my wide-format printer.  I added our new address at the bottom.

Hindsight: I may be several years behind in scrapbooking (hello 2005!), but hindsight is great sometimes:  the text documents how we found out we got this place the same weekend we got engaged.  It also documents that we lived there when we got married and Mr. P carried me over the threshold when we got home from our honeymoon.  Ah, memories!

Scrapbook Layout: Wedding Scrapbook, 7th Anniversary Layout

Seven years.  Feels great.

What also feels great?  Being done with the Wedding Scrapbook.  I put the page together in one evening and added it to the book.  I love having the page design already decided!

This is the same design as the rest of my anniversary scrapbook layouts.  I took our new picture and paired it with the business card from the restaurant we ate at plus another of our guest book cards.

Mr. P is such a good sport and got up a few minutes early so we could take our picture before work.  We’ve been married long enough that he’d rather get up early without complaint instead of risking hearing me fret for the rest of our lives how I didn’t get a good picture.

I’m so happy that I decided to start taking pictures on our first anniversary and that we’ve kept it up.

Scrapbook Layout: Our First Home Together

Now that the title page and intro page for this scrapbook are out of the way, where do we begin?

At the beginning, of course.

For us, that meant moving in together and starting our lives together.

The two items on the left are the front and back of our change of address postcard.

The top right photo is our apartment complex.  I was so on top of things even back then that I took a picture of our first place, right?  Wrong.  It’s a screenshot from Google Street View.  I found our place using Google Maps, made the window very very big, then took a screenshot.  The resolution will be fine as long as the printed photo isn’t very large.

The map?   Also a screenshot from Google Maps.

I placed a little pin on the map to show where we actually lived.  The pin is the Geotag from Kelly Purkey.

I added some handwriting below talking about moving in and what our life was like at that moment.

I’m really pleased with how simple of a layout says so much about a big time in our lives!

Scrapbook Layout: 2004 Scrapbook Intro Page

I love intro pages almost as much as I love title pages.

This page does two things:

First, it summarizes stuff that happened in our lives that year.

I added a couple paragraphs about us to capture things that may not get their own layout later in the book.

Second, it adds a bit of pop culture and news to put the year in context.

The design from this page is totally lifted from this layout.  I printed directly on the page with my Epson R2000 printer, leaving spaces for pictures that I glued on later.

Most of the pictures are news and pop culture related.  They cover things like the Olympics, the presidential election, the iPod, and other fun & serious stuff.

Scrapbook Layout: 2004 Scrapbook Title Page

I like title pages (see here, here, and here).

Earlier I talked about how I wasn’t sure how I was going to scrapbook “just life” without definitive periods like I did for school scrapbooks.  I realized if I created a title page for each year, it would be pretty much what I was doing before.

Plus, making title pages is so fun.  I love picking out photos for them.  I also love layouts with lots of squares.

I picked a couple of photos from my college graduation even though they’re in my last college scrapbook.  Since graduating is kind of a big deal, I wanted it in this snapshot.

I printed the pictures in 2×2-inch squares and glued those onto a navy blue cardstock background.  Below that, I added a huge strip of chevron paper and a big 2004 cut out of blue shimmer cardstock.  On top of the year, I added this strip I designed that alternates the year and roman numerals.

Not a bad beginning if I do say so myself!

Scrapbook Layout: Wedding Scrapbook, Anniversary Pages

Well, we’re here!  This is it!

One page for each anniversary.  Seems simple enough?  You bet.  The design will be the same every year, with a slight variation depending on what side of the page it’s on.

I only stressed about the design a tiny bit (yeah, right).  Picking a design I’ll use for all the years of our marriage caused me no stress at all.

What’s on Each Anniversary Scrapbook Page

5×7 Anniversary Photo: We take a photo each year on our anniversary (way back on our first I had us take a photo and had no idea what I would use it for).  The photo is always vertical and is taken either at home or where we happen to be if we are traveling.

A guest book card: I pick one of the guest book cards and add it to the page.  I like how putting them here makes them individually important and I like reading wishes for our future next to our anniversaries.  When I run out of those, I’m going to start using cards we got with wedding gifts.

Business Card from Restaurant: I collect a business card for the restaurant where we ate dinner that night.  Sometimes they’re easy to get on the host stand, sometimes I have to ask for them.  Mr. P is a pro and will remind me if I forget.

Notes: I write the year and pen a few thoughts about the day or where we were.

Patterned paper borders: I use leftover patterned paper from the wedding scrapbook to frame each page.

Anniversary number cut with Silhouette: This goes on the bottom corner of the page and is Garamond in italic.  I admit, I didn’t think this through very well.  I don’t think “twenty-seven” and other long numbers are going to fit on the page at that font size.  I can’t go smaller because italic serifed fonts are very difficult to cut out on the Silhouette.  I might switch to numerals at our 10th.

So that’s it, kinda.  Each year after our anniversary I’ll post the new layout here before I add it to the album!  I’m so excited to be able to revisit this project every year and see how we have changed.

Scrapbook Layout: Wedding Scrapbook, Anniversaries Division Page

Here we go!  I promise this is the very last section of this scrapbook.  I’ve been planning this section in the back of my head since the very beginning.

This page is the exact same design as the three other division pages (Engagement, Wedding, Honeymoon).

It was a real challenge to find the pictures.  I’m using pictures of us from our anniversaries in this section and I didn’t want to repeat them here.  I went through my entire photo collection and found some cute pictures that were “us.”  The “Happily Ever After” comes from a wall at Disney’s California Adventure.  Another is a dessert from our sixth anniversary, the black and white one is from the photobooth at my little sister’s wedding, and I even snuck one in there from our wedding.

After that, putting this together was a snap!

Scrapbook Layout: Wedding Scrapbook, Volcano Village Layout

I’ll be honest – this isn’t my favorite layout.  But it’s done and I’m hoping the other layouts will compliment it.

We spent the first part of our honeymoon at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and this page shows where we stayed and other bits and pieces not associated with the actual park.

It was really important that I incorporated the Polaroid (how often do we see those anymore?) that was taken of us the first night of our honeymoon.  I added the ticket from dinner that night just underneath, plus the business card of a lovely place that I want to make sure and remember.

I promise that the next honeymoon layouts will be infinitely more exciting than this one!
