Scrapbook Layout: Home from the Honeymoon

The Story: Our first night home after our Honeymoon.  Read the Picture Story here.

Another Wedding Layout not in the Wedding Scrapbook: By the time I finished scrapbooking our honeymoon in the wedding scrapbook, I was d-o-n-e.  I knew I wanted to tell this story but saved it for another time.  It’s sort of a “return to regular life” layout and that story is better told here in our “regular life” scrapbook.

Inspiration: This layout by Geralyn Sy (original post here).  The photos I worked with weren’t of great quality, and I like how the borders of patterned paper really popped them.

Hand-Drawn Hawaii: Well, more like traced (method here), but I was going for a hand-drawn look.  At the last minute, I added the dashes by hand to make it look Indiana Jones-esque.

Scrapbook Layout: Wedding Scrapbook, Kauai Layout

Kauai Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout by Almost Never CleverKauai Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout by Almost Never CleverKauai Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout by Almost Never CleverKauai Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout by Almost Never CleverKauai Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout by Almost Never CleverWhat’s this?  Is this the last honeymoon layout?  It is!

This is a mishmash of stuff from our time on Kauai that I wanted to remember – things that weren’t big enough to get their own layout.

If you notice, the business cards dictate the size of everything else.  I had two business cards from restaurants with very special meals.  I printed the pictures the same size.  At the bottom, I cut up the receipt for our snorkeling gear rental to also be the same size.  This is the same technique I used for the first page of the honeymoon scrapbook – cut everything to fit the size of a keepsake.

In one of the rectangles, I added text that says what each photo or thing on the layout is.  I keep the colors to blue, turquoise and silver.

Notice the waterfall in the second picture?  This is the page I was working on when I realized I didn’t remember the name of the waterfall, hence the Google Search by Image!

It’s a simple ending for a great trip.  I’m so glad I finally have our honeymoon “in print.”

Scrapbook Layout: Wedding Scrapbook, Waimea Canyon Layout

Waimea Canyon Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout by Almost Never CleverWaimea Canyon Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout by Almost Never CleverWaimea Canyon Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout by Almost Never CleverWaimea Canyon Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout by Almost Never CleverHmmmm, this looks familiar, doesn’t it?  Perhaps like a layout I showed you a couple of days ago?  Right, I scraplifted myself.

Here’s the thing: this Waimea Canyon scrapbook layout needed the same treatment as the last one.  I had scenery pictures that needed to be big and bold.

I’m also totally running out of steam on this book!

In the end, I decided if I had this design and it worked, I was going to use it again.  I changed things up a little bit – the colors are greener and it’s a mirror image of my Na Pali Coast scrapbook layout.   Other than that, it’s pretty much the same and I’m okay with that!

Have you ever reused a design this close to the original?

Scrapbook Layout: Wedding Scrapbook, Na Pali Coast Layout

This page is all about showcasing big photos.  I added blue, grey and pearl shimmer cardstock accents, but not much else. I hope the photos speak for themselves.

You may be wondering why the picture of us is so small compared to the landscapes.  Isn’t the honeymoon about us, after all?  Kinda.  It’s a super-grainy photo of us that barely looks good even at that size.  I gave my camera to someone on the boat to get a picture of us and it was accidentally set on video.  This was before HD video, so I had to take a low-quality screen capture from the video.  It’s better than nothing!

Does this remind you of the movie Jurassic Park?  Some of the shots from that movie were filmed here!

I did something similar to my wedding reception layouts – squares and rectangles.  The big photo at the bottom?  It’s not a photo – it’s a postcard!  The text I cut with the Silhouette is pearlish, hard to see in the picture but it looks really nice in person.

I jazzed up the left side with some patterned paper and some matching turquoise shimmer.  I like how it adds some interest to the page without taking it over.

Scrapbook Layout: Wedding Scrapbook, Volcano National Park Layout

The text of the headline matches that of my earlier Volcano Village scrapbook layout.  I think I’m going to use a similar feel for the rest of the honeymoon.  I put a lot of text below that – it was quite an adventure.

To the right of the map, I added pictures from the park with vertical captions.

I left the map itself whole and then glued more pictures to the map – you see them when you flip the map up.

I’m not sure how often anyone will actually open the map all the way, but it’s pretty cool!

I’m generally pleased with it – glad to be done fighting the map until the next one comes along.

We spent the first part of our honeymoon at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and this page shows where we stayed and other bits and pieces not associated with the actual park.

It was really important that I incorporated the Polaroid (how often do we see those anymore?) that was taken of us the first night of our honeymoon.  I added the ticket from dinner that night just underneath, plus the business card of a lovely place that I want to make sure and remember.

I promise that the next honeymoon layouts will be infinitely more exciting than this one!

Scrapbook Layout: Wedding Scrapbook, Off to Hawaii Layout

Hawaii Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout 1Hawaii Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout 3Hawaii Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout 5Hawaii Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout 4Hawaii Honeymoon Scrapbook Layout 2Woooo!  The first real honeymoon page!

This page is an overview of sorts and captures bits from our entire trip.  It shows one of my favorite techniques: knitting photos and keepsakes together cohesively.

The photos and keepsakes are all cut the same size.  I used the airline boarding passes as a base to determine the size of everything else.  I made the airline itinerary double the size of the other boxes and it fits in really nicely.  It shows the dates we visited each island so I don’t need to write it elsewhere.

At the bottom, I added a headline out of shimmer stock and then cut a set of Hawaiian islands with the Silhouette.

What do you guys think of this new post layout?  I’m experimenting with having all the photos together and the text at the end of the post instead of photos with tiny paragraphs mixed in.  I think it’s easier to read.
