Scrapbook Layout: 10th Wedding Anniversary

The Story:  We celebrated a big one this year!! 1-0!

One scrapbook page for every anniversary:  We take a picture on each of our anniversaries and I turn it into a scrapbook layout and add it to the end of our wedding scrapbook.  I love how the scenery changes and we have changed over the years.

Guest book cards: As usual, I picked one “guest book card” that was signed by a wedding guest and included it on the page.  Read more about why we used guest book cards here.

More to scrapbook later: I have more pictures of our party and more thoughts that I will likely put into our 2016 scrapbook.  This page is to simply mark the year and matches all of its compadres in the Anniversary section (see below).

Scrapbook Layout: Big Game

The Story:  I used two layouts for the Big Game, the tailgate Mr. P and I hosted, and the rally the night before.  A on of stuff to fit on two pages!

Collage it Up:  I went back to my teenage-collage-making roots with this one.  I couldn’t figure out how to get everything on the page to be cohesive design-wise.  I decided to screw it and make a collage.  Done and done.  I love how it turned out!

Scrapbook Layout: Football Season

The Story: Football.  Need I say more?

Key Ephemera: I have to have someplace to put my season tickets and our fridge magnet.  I love mixing them up with photos.  See more on how I scrapbook with fridge magnets here.

Changing up the Fonts: I’ve used Bebas almost exclusively on older football pages.  I decided to go with a smaller, more sleek headline this time.

More Football Layouts: I’ve done similar layouts for every year that I’ve been a season ticket holder.  They’re similar, but each have a slightly different take: 2004 part 1, 2004 part 2, 2005, 2006.

Scrapbook Layout: Summer Misc

The Story:  Lots of bits and pieces about 2007 that didn’t necessarily need their own layout.  In some cases, I had a bit of ephemera.  In others, I had just a couple of photos.

Multi-Event Page: As with the pages for my friend’s wedding, I could have made so many pages with this.  I didn’t want to spend that much time/space on any one of these so it made sense to combine them.

In the end, I thought this was a pretty effective way to use up stuff and tell a story!

Scrapbook Layout: Wedding Weekend in Atlanta

The Story: I was asked to be a bridesmaid in a very dear friend’s wedding.  Mr. P and I flew to Atlanta for a weekend’s worth of wedding activities.  It was my first time being in a wedding!  Other than my own, of course.

Three Pages, Could Have Been Six:  I originally planned one page per event in the wedding.  I went to a bridesmaids lunch, rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, the wedding, reception, after parties every night, plus seeing a bit of Atlanta.  I stepped outside of the box here and mixed everything together.  I realized that it wasn’t my wedding so I didn’t have to break it down into ever detail, nor did I have to use every piece of ephemera I saved.

Different Sizes, Black and White: I mixed photo sizes and mixed color and black and white photos.  It could have been a hot mess but actually ended up pretty cohesive looking!

Headline on Photo:  This was a new design challenge and I love the clean modern look of how it turned out.

Photos of Important Keepsakes: Remember, when you can’t put something in a scrapbook, take a picture of it.  The bride had handpainted fans made in China for the wedding guests.  She also bought each of us bridesmaids a pearl set from her friend’s shop in China (she’d take Mr. P and I to that very shop five years later).  The mother of the bride also gave each of us a handkerchief to carry with our bouquets.  Before working on the page, I put the pearls, the handkerchief, and the fan together and took a picture.

Scrapbook Layout: Giants Games

It’s baseball season y’all!  I’m still sitting over here in kind-of-actually-sunny London but my social media feeds are abuzz in baseball.  I’m also finding myself trying to explain the appeal of baseball to my British coworkers.

Side note – I’m amused when the page I have to blog about actually comes up at the right time of the year to show it.  I’m not a seasonal scrapbooker, as you know.

The Story: Cataloging the Giants games Mr. P and I went to in 2007.  This includes the always-important magnet schedule (learn about how I use magnets in scrapbooks here).

Number 750 / Lift-Up Tickets: Just by chance, we ended up at the game where Barry Bonds hit his 750th home run.  We took our tickets to the Giants Dugout Store to get a special pin a few days later and they stamped the back of the tickets.  I wanted to show the stamp and didn’t want to glue down either side of the tickets.  I hinged them just by gluing a strip at the top so they lift up.

Scrapbook Layout: Big Game Week

The Story: This is the big rivalry week at my alma mater.  Mr. P and I participate in some activities and go back to help the students with the bonfire rally.

Project Life Style: Noticing a pattern?  I was hit hard by Project Life inspiration recently.  You don’t have to do Project Life to use its ideas.  I like that it’s given me a new way to think about displaying a lot of items at once.  Here, I was going to do three rows per page but settled on two when I counted up the number of pictures + ephemera.

Black & White + Color: I can’t believe this worked out so well.  Truly.  It’s like I planned it that way.  Usually I go uniformly one way or the other but the mix really works here.  Expanding my style again!

Trimmed Ephemera: In order for this design to work, I had to be okay trimming down ephemera to fit the space.  I won’t do that all the time but it was no problem here.

Negative Space: What I really like about experimenting with Project Life design is flexing my design muscle when it comes to headlines.  You won’t see anything like this in my previous books.

Scrapbook Layout: 2006 Football Season

The Story: Chronicling Cal’s 2006 football season.  This included the trip to Tennessee that I posted earlier about, but that was so epic it deserved its own layout.  These layouts cover the season generally and showcase little bits I want to remember (like that time Marshawn Lynch, now of the Seattle Seahawks, drove an injury cart out onto the field to celebrate an overtime win).

Reusing a Design: This design is very very similar to the design I used in 2005.  It’s very challenging to include tickets, a fridge magnet, clippings, and photos all onto one page, especially when the tickets have to be lined up horizontally.  I liked the design so hey, why not?

Season Specs: I’ve included a win-loss record and other key information for the season in every football layout since I became a Cal fan.  The seasons run together in my mind and I like how I can instantly get a feeling for that year, who the coach was, and who the quarterback was.

Scrapbook Layout: Tennessee Football Roadtrip

The Story: Our football roadtrip to see Cal play at Tennessee in 2006.

Inspiration: The left page is Project Life-ish.  The right page is inspired by this layout from this post.  I love all the text down the right side of the page.

Two Pages, For the Win: This trip could have easily been 4 pages.  Even 5.  For a trip that was just over 24 hours, it seemed kind of excessive.  I’m giving myself a big pat on the back for getting into 2.

Just the Right Orange: I had to make a special trip to Michaels to find cardstock that is just the right color orange.  If you’re scrapbooking about a school, this stuff matters.  In case you were wondering, according to the University of Tennessee, it is Hex F77F00 or CMYK 0 50 100 0.

Lots of Little Squares: The strips on the left page match the endzones at Neyland Stadium.  I could have printed the design but I cut all of the little orange squares out on the Silhouette and glued them with tweezers onto white cardstock.

Back in the Day when You Used a Map: This was pre-GPS, so we had our driving directions printed, but we picked up a map of Tennessee from AAA just in case.  I cut Knoxville out of the map and added a map pin to it.

Scrapbook Layout: Baseball Games

The Story: Gathering all my pictures and ephemera from going to Giants games in 2006.

Tracking the History of the Ballpark: The ballpark is always changing.  The new name of the ballpark shows on the tickets.  The pictures show new changes inside the park: adding a Build-a-Bear Workshop and renaming the splash landing in right field.  I love how these pages show the passing of time.

Still Keeping it Interesting: It is challenging to scrapbook the same type of event every year.  This year, I got everything on one page (’04 and ’05 are two pages each).  I thought it was going to look too cluttered but I think everything fit together very nicely.

Team Logo: I traced it and cut it out with the Silhouette program.  I’m not making it available here for download because it’s trademarked but I believe my personal use of it is okay.  You can trace your own sports logos using Silhouette Studio, just don’t try to give them away or sell them (this isn’t legal advice, just my opinion).
