The Story: Another year and there’s another football season to document. It’s challenging to come up with ways to display season tickets, a fridge magnet, photos and other bits of ephemera.

Stats: I designed a little card with the season win-loss record, the name of the coach, and the names of the quarterbacks. I’ve been including this information on my football pages since I started going to games in 2000 and it adds great context.
Lots of Newspaper: Every year I decide to save different things. This year I had a lot of newspaper articles to work with. I spaced them throughout the pages and they cover some very key events. Hindsight is always fabulous because I already know that these articles would have big implications a few years later.
Write in the Dates: When I use newspaper articles, somewhere around the article I’ll write the date in very small writing. It’s probably the archivist in me, but I like to have record of when the piece was published.
Vertical Stripes: I added some flair by cutting eighth-inch stripes out of blue, gold, and white cardstock and glued them down the side of the page. I like how it adds a little something without being distracting.
That’s it, a whopping 4 layouts for the season (not including the Big Game, that will come later!).

To your first point, I have no clue.
As to your second point, I will not deny that the thought has crossed my mind.
I keep some newspaper articles too, usually big news, local news and some pop culture. I often keep ads. With prices 🙂 Tells quite a story 5 and 10 years later, looking back! What I usually do for newspaper dates is cut the strip from the paper that includes the date, the name of the newspaper and the page number. Page number can tell the story too. How far was the story buried??
Do you use the spray-on stuff that makes newspapers acid free?? I’ve never done that. And 20 years later, many articles are yellowed. Makes me wonder if they newspaper will eventually fade away??
I don’t use the spray stuff on the newspapers and they will yellow but it doesn’t bother me. Newspaper is printed on very low quality paper so yes, it will not stand the test of time. I don’t worry about it too much, if I wanted to perfectly preserve them, looking at them in a scrapbook wouldn’t be the best option. I had a chance to look at some very old newspaper scrapbooks that were decades and decades old when I was in Australia last summer and they certainly held up better than I would have expected.
